The Rolls Royce of Cutting Machines: The Neumann VMS80
At BLM Studio, we have the privilege of working with a true icon of the industry: the Neumann VMS80. This legendary cutting lathe, fully restored and still in operation since its debut in the 1980s, represents the excellence and legendary reliability of Neumann equipment, trusted by vinyl professionals worldwide.
But this isn't just a machine—it's a piece of history. Neumann laid the groundwork for vinyl cutting in 1929 with the AM29 and continued to refine his craft over the decades. In 1970, the VMS70 set a new benchmark for innovation, culminating in the VMS80 and VMS82 models of the 1980s—masterpieces of unmatched technical expertise. Despite the arrival of CDs, these machines continued to shine and remain an absolute reference for vinyl cutting to this day.
The Neumann VMS80 brings the golden age of vinyl to life. With its surgical precision and unparalleled sound quality, it stands as a symbol of craftsmanship and technological excellence that transcends time. At BLM Studio, this prestigious piece of equipment is more than just a tool—it is the cornerstone of the perfection we deliver in every project. Because when it comes to vinyl, only the finest tools can create true masterpieces.🎶

My Experience (The Story of Gérard Poirier, CEO of BLM Studio)
With a career defined by innovation and excellence, I had the privilege of managing MPO in France for over 20 years. Established in 1957, MPO is a global leader in vinyl record production as well as CD, DVD, and Blu-Ray manufacturing, employing more than 500 people.
In 2020, driven by an ambitious vision, I co-founded a new vinyl record factory in Paris—VDP (Vinyl de Paris)—together with Jérôme Bergé. This entrepreneurial venture was both a human and professional adventure. Every step of the process, from selecting the facility to installing the equipment, recruiting, and training a talented team, was carried out with passion. In just four years, VDP achieved extraordinary growth: expanding from 3 employees in 2020 to 40 in 2024, with annual revenue exceeding €8 million.
This unique experience revealed a key insight: very few experts in this industry truly master the entire vinyl manufacturing process. Even fewer understand the critical role that mastering and cutting play in the final sound quality. Cutting is the decisive stage where the quality of sound is determined—it can only degrade afterward.
This pursuit of perfection led me, in August 2024, to sell my shares in VDP and fully dedicate myself to BLM Studio, a cutting-edge lacquer cutting and mastering studio. Because at the core of vinyl record quality, everything starts in the studio. BLM Studio embodies my passion for flawless sound and the technical expertise that makes all the difference..
